Texas Latin-American Conference, IPHC – Early Beginnings,
and Historical Timeline

This following history, which covered a span from 1931 to 1944, was dictated by the late Rev. Esteban B. Lopez.
(Thanks to the late Rev. Daniel Blanco for this written account which was dictated to him by Rev. Esteban B. Lopez.)
In the beginning, during the years 1925 to 1931, an independent group of churches, which were located in south and central
Texas, began working together in an organized way. The leader was Arnulfo M. Lopez. He established an independent local
conference of six churches in the territory that covered the Texas Rio Grande Valley and Austin, Tx. areas. These churches
were located in San Benito, Kingsville, Cuero, Yorktown, Austin, and Weslaco. The organization became called La
Confederacion Mutua de Iglesias. The Weslaco church, whose pastor was Rev. Botello, was the oldest established
church of the six. Four missions were also part of La Confederación Mutua de Iglesias.
In the year 1930, a young man named Esteban B. Lopez joined La Confederacion Mutua de Iglesias, and was licensed as
an Exht. through them. Soon after, Esteban B. Lopez learned about the Pentecostal Holiness Church denomination,
and began talking to Arnulfo M. Lopez about the idea of joining the PHC denomination. Rev. J.A. Killebrew was a Weslaco
pastor who was already a member of the PHC. He was also an influence in persuading Arnulfo M. Lopez to join the PHC.
Arnulfo M. Lopez, with his six churches, joined the PHC officially in the 1st Annual Convention in Weslaco, Tx., on Dec.
27, 1931. The General Superintendent of the PHC, Joseph H. King, officiated.
The South Texas Mexican Conference of the Pentecostal Holiness Church, (Conferencia del Sur de Tejas Mexicana
Iglesia Santa Pentecostes) was organized.

resulted in the first PHC church to be founded in Mexico.
